The Art Project called: Catch of the Day~ The Children observed various freshwater fish and talked about their similarities and differences. Created their own colorful fish and went ice fishing!

They designed their own artful fish through simple techniques of using markers, crayons and a kaleidoscope of shredded tissue paper. We discussed what warm and cool colors are in art. Eric Carle a beloved artist, author is well know in his use of tissue paper to create his illustrations. We were inspired looking at his book Mister Seahorse before delving into our own colorful fish designs!

ICE FISHING TIME!!! We talked about during the winter season some people like to go ice fishing in the US and around the world. The children learned about some ice fishing items to bring along like fishing pole size, types of bait to catch fish and what to wear to keep warm while ice fishing. Each child got a turn to go ice fishing. When a fish was caught they observed the details of the fresh water fish to guess if it was bass, carp, catfish or perch! The children were able to bring home their own catch of a fish that they designed along with their fishing pole and maybe make up some fun fishing games of their own!
Here are some highlights of the Catch of the Day event!
